Holy Wisdom Monastery temporarily closed

October 29, 2020 – January 3, 2021

Holy Wisdom Monastery is temporarily closed due to the record high number of COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin. Governor Tony Evers is urging everyone to stay home and avoid nonessential travel and gatherings with people outside of your household in order to stop the spread, reduce the strain on the healthcare system and to save lives.

On Wednesday, October 28, 2020 the Benedictine Women of Madison Board recommended closing the monastery to everyone except essential workers. This includes people coming for prayer and worship services, retreatants and groups, vendors, volunteers and coworkers. The monastery will contact those people who are scheduled to come to the monastery to let them know. Coworkers who can, will work from home. On Friday, November 13, 2020 the board extended the original 2 week closure through the end of the year. They will reassess in December.

The grounds will remain open for anyone wishing to walk on the trails. No indoor facilities are available.

The sisters will continue to livestream some prayer and worship services. Contact Lynn Lemberger or Sister Lynne Smith for more information.

If you would like to support the monastery financially during these hard times, donate online or contact Amy Bonomie.

Stay home and stay well.
