Join us for an inspiring evening focusing on the Life and Spirituality of Thomas Berry presented by nationally-know speakers Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grim.
Thomas Berry (1914–2009) was one of the twentieth century’s most profound thinkers. As a cultural historian, he sought a broader perspective on humanity’s relationship to Earth in order to respond to the ecological and social challenges of our times. He began his studies in Western history and religions and expanded to include Asian and indigenous religions, which he taught at Fordham University, Barnard College, and Columbia University. Thomas was also an outspoken advocate for the environment and a priest of the Passionist order.
Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grim are Senior Lecturers and Research Scholars at Yale University where they have appointments in the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies as well as the Divinity School and the Department of Religious Studies. They teach in the joint MA program in religion and ecology and direct the Forum on Religion and Ecology at Yale. They were students of Thomas Berry and collaborated over several decades to edit his books. They also wrote Thomas Berry: A Biography with Andrew Angyal (Columbia, 2019)
The Friends of Wisdom Prairie and the Oblates of Holy Wisdom Monastery are excited to sponsor this program and bring these nationally-known speakers at the monastery. We hope you can join us.
