New Books in the Library

Enrich your mind and spirit—visit the monastery library!

May 2013

May is one of my favorite months!  Spring flowers are in bloom.  Warmer weather (hopefully) has arrived.  The evenings are longer, which means there’s more time to enjoy the outdoors.  There are graduations to attend, Mother’s Day to celebrate, and Memorial Day weekend to savor as our summer kick-off.

As part of your celebration of the month of May, attend daily prayer, stroll the nature trails, visit the library and do some browsing.

The monastery library has recently added the following books to its collection:

Kierkegaard, Soren. Spiritual Writings. New York: NY: Harper Perennial, 2010.

Lohfink, Gerhard. Jesus of Nazareth. Collegeville, MN: Liturgical Press, 2012.

Maitri, Sandra. The Spiritual Dimension of the Enneagram. New York, NY: Jeremy P. Tarcher/Putnam, 2000.

O Murchu, Diarmuid. Ancestral Grace. Maryknoll, NY: Orbis Books, 2008.

Pelikan, Jaroslav. Whose Bible Is It? New York, NY: Viking, 2005.

Snyder, Larry.  Think and act anew.  Maryknoll, NY: Orbis Books, 2010.

Wolf, Abbot Primate Notker. Make Time For Yourself. New Delhi: D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd., 2010.

These titles and many more await your discovery!

I would recommend the following:

“Introverts in the Church: Finding Our Place in an Extroverted Culture by Adam S. McHugh”….I would have to believe this is the only book written specifically on this topic.

“God Alone Is Enough: a Spirited Journey with St. Teresa of Avila” by Claudia Mair Burney…it’s simple yet simply inspiring

“Learning to Fail: the Blessings of an Imperfect Life” by Philip Simmons…we’ve so often been given the task of becoming perfect…only to continually fail…here’s what living real life entails

I would also recommend just about any collection of essays by Lisa Knopp, who writes about SE Iowa and Nebraska…very meditative, very descriptive.

Hi Merle:

Our collections manager, Nancy Sandleback, is out of town for vacation for the holidays now. But the only book I see by Christine Valters Paintner that we have at our library is “Lectio Divina: Contemplative Awakening and Awareness.”

I will have Nancy follow up with you when she returns from vacation.

Feel free to stop by our library if you are able! It’s free and open to the public on weekdays from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Putting on the Mind of Christ by Jim Marion.
This is a wonderful study of mysticism in the modern world.
Can’t say enough about how truly wonderful this book is.
