Becoming a Sister

Ecumenical formation invites a deepening awareness
of the life and work at Holy Wisdom Monastery

Benedictine Women of Madison is an ecumenical monastic community. Like other monastics, we promote dialogue and interactions among Christian churches. Within the community we live a practical ecumenism grounded in hospitality, listening, and service to one another. We follow the Rule of Benedict as a contemporary way of living the Gospel. We welcome diversity among members, and together we find a home in Benedictine spirituality. In our life together we seek justice, truth, peace, humility, healing and forgiveness.

Discernment for community life

Discerning your call to religious life and to our community takes time. Visits, conversation with members, prayer and retreats are important aspects of getting acquainted during your discernment time prior to becoming a candidate. Read more about initial discernment.

Process of Formation at Holy Wisdom Monastery

The process of formation involves four stages of entering more deeply into community life.  Read more about these stages of discernment.
