Communities

The sisters have formed various communities at Holy Wisdom Monastery over the years. These communities are groups of people who take inspiration from Benedictine monastic spirituality. Currently we have four main communities.
Benedictine Women of Madison is an ecumenical monastic community who seeks God through a life following the Gospel and the Rule of Benedict. Community members live, pray and work together and welcome other single Christian women to explore life with them. For more information, contact Mary David Walgenbach, OSB, prioress at (608) 831-9300; Joanne Kollasch, OSB, first councilor at (608) 831-9302 or Lynne Smith, OSB, director of membership and monastic formation at (608) 831-9305.
Sunday Assembly is an ecumenical inclusive worshiping community that gathers at the monastery at 9 am on Sundays to celebrate an ecumenical Eucharist. For more information, contact Lynn at (608) 836-1631 x138.
The Oblates of Holy Wisdom Monastery is an intentional and ecumenical community of women and men. In a mutual relationship with the sisters, they seek God through the Benedictine tradition of a balanced life of prayer, work, leisure and study. They meet bimonthly to help one another grow spiritually, to nurture the “monk” in each person and to integrate Benedictine spirituality into their lives. For more information, contact Everett at (608) 836-1631 x163.
Community of Benedict is an intentional ecumenical community of women and men who meet every two or three weeks for a meal and faith sharing. Formed in 1981, this group seeks to support one another on their life journeys. For more information about joining an ecumenical community of women and men associated with Holy Wisdom Monastery, see the information about the oblate community.
