Environmental Education

Teaching in the prairie

The grounds serve as a living laboratory and an inspiration

Holy Wisdom Monastery is a “living laboratory” for students and environmentalists. Area environmentalists benefit from the bountiful prairie and our knowledgable environmental co-workers, gaining invaluable hands-on training to supplement their classroom education. Students of all grade levels frequently join us on site to learn and work together.

We plan to create an outdoor teaching area near the restored prairie, oak savannah and wetland preserve. We also hope to reach out to other environmental organizations. Holy Wisdom Monastery is an environmental educational resource for the greater community.

Come and explore the nature trails
You will see, smell, hear, touch and even taste the bounty of God’s creation as you walk our nature trails. Breathe in the fragrance of the forest and prairie. Watch for coyotes, fox, deer, great blue heron, pheasant, turkey and other wildlife. Listen to the song of the indigo bunting, yellow-throated warbler, bluebird and cardinal. Touch the delicate textures of the wood fern. Then taste the wild blackberries and mulberries or a flavorful apple from our orchard. We take special care of the land for the education of today’s guests and to preserve it for future generations.

Download the nature trail map and guide to learn more about what you’ll see.
