Benedictine Women of Madison
About Our Community
We are an ecumenical monastic community, seeking God through a life following the Gospel and the Rule of Benedict. We live, pray and work together and welcome other single Christian women to explore life with us. We honor diversity among our members and in the communities we help create: the sisters’ community (Benedictine Women of Madison), Oblates of Holy Wisdom Monastery, co-workers, volunteers and our Sunday worshipping community (Sunday Assembly). Our ministries at Holy Wisdom Monastery and beyond provide resources for spiritual enrichment and growth. Prairie restoration and a “green” monastery building express our environmental work. Our community’s hospitality extends to sisters from around the globe, with specific mission links to the Missionary Benedictine sisters in Nairobi, Kenya.
We invite you to continue your spiritual journey with us
Benedictine spirituality animates the life and work of our ecumenical monastic community. This spirituality reminds seekers never to lose hope in God’s mercy (Rule of Benedict 4.73). The journey through life is one we walk together. At Holy Wisdom Monastery, we embrace a vision of inclusive membership in our monastic community. This means a woman of any Christian tradition is welcome to explore a call to our way of life. As Benedictine Women of Madison, we:
- welcome all to join in prayer
- offer hospitality to all
- practice justice in our relationships
- are diligent in caring for the earth
Our community has put down strong roots in Madison. We encourage you to join us in preserving and protecting this sacred space.
